About Us

Short Avenue Elementary School is a small, TK-5th grade, public school located in the Del Rey neighborhood of Los Angeles. We pride ourselves on being a diverse, community-based school with a strong focus on student agency and international mindedness. Dedicated to the whole child, the thoughtful curriculum includes an inquiry driven model that views students as partners in learning, with their interests and curiosities at the forefront of our decision making.

Short Avenue Elementary is an International Baccalaureate World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programs of international education that share a powerful vision.
 
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
