Non-Resident Applicants Needing a Permit
(Intra- or Inter-District)
***Please know that for the last two years, we have not offered any permits for families living outside of our designated neighborhood area, other than to our current siblings and staff. Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year we are NOT guaranteeing that we will be able to grant any permits at all. We hope you will consider this when deciding whether to tour our school.
Families needing a permit who are interested in Short Avenue who DO NOT live in our resident neighborhood area will need to do the following:
- Attend our tour on January 28th in order to be included on our interest list for the next school year. Please see the TOUR page on this website for tour and RSVP information. At this time we are only having one tour. Please be aware that we anticipate having very few, if any permit spots available for all grade levels.
- In the unlikely scenario that we have space, families will need either an Inter-District Permit or an Intra-District Permit. LAUSD permit information can be found at https://www.lausd.org/Page/17470. We anticipate not knowing our space availability until August, 2026 at the earliest.
- Inter-District Permits are for families who live outside of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Special permission is required to leave your resident school district to join LAUSD.
- Intra-District Permits are for families who live within the Los Angeles Unified School District but want to attend a school that is not their resident area school.
This process of accepting students from outside our zone of residence is fluid and there is no set timeline. If we know we have space in a grade level we can make decisions faster. If we are close to capacity this process could very well extend into August and could have decisions being made after the school year has started.
Occasionally we do have some limited openings in grades 1-5. Please reach out to Avril Lipsky ([email protected]) if you are interested in any of these grade levels.
Sibling Families
Current Short Avenue families on permit are not guaranteed a spot for a younger sibling. Families with a younger sibling are asked to please fill out the google form that will be in the Weekly Wave starting November 3rd, 2025. This will indicate your interest and will add you to the Sibling Interest List. Siblings of current students will be given priority, when accepting students off of the interest list.
